:: Graffiti – My First True Love ::

It’s been about seven long years since I blessed a wall with some spray paint. That streak ended recently thanks to my cohort Tim aka Krupt. Graffiti has changed a lot, but the greatest change has to be the paint itself. They have spray paint made by graffiti writers for graffiti writers. It costs a lot more but damn is it worth it! The color range is vast. The paint doesn’t drip. You can get skinny lines, blends, and crazy details with the stock caps. It smells great too. This mural was for Diable Cross Fit. Letters by me and trees by Tim (you can see part of the trees in the Weekend in Review post below).

Speaking of graffiti here’s a throwback trailer Tim made circa 2002. So many memories. 594Gear. Maritime Hall. Telegraph. Oakland Train Tracks. Cyphers. Who’s that spitting bars in the video though?

:: Jabbawockeez Splash T-Shirt Design ::

Was blessed with the opportunity to craft a t-shirt design for the world famous Jabbawockeez! The concept behind this was fluid animation – a metaphor synonymous with their style of dance. Originally, the main element was going to be the mask, but during the process we opted for their question mark logo. By having the mask as a secondary element it created a sense of mystery and intrigue which the Jabbawockeez are also known for. Shouts to Ratha of Stablished for bringing me on board this fresh project!

As a designer I’m always curious about the process of how designs are crafted. For someone to give you insight into their process is priceless.  Sharing this knowledge is important and helps build up those around you. That’s why I’ve decided to give you one of my works in a layered Photoshop (PSD) format so you can take a gander inside, get inspired and learn from it. Feel free to share.

Highlight: Muddy Buddy

:: Sliding Through the Mud in San Jose ::

I, along with my wife and friends, will be participating in the Muddy Buddy races this Sunday! This will be my first time doing an event like this so I’m not sure what to expect. I hear it’s fun and not too difficult. What intrigues me most besides the mud pit and beer is actually training for an event and seeing how that will pay off. I’ve been on the P90x and Insanity regiment for a couple of years so I trust that will have some benefits. However, running for long distances is new to me. So about a month ago I started a strict running schedule to build up endurance. My first attempt to run a 1/2 mile was pathetic. A lot of breaks and heavy breathing. Now I can run 1.25 miles straight through. That’s major given how winded I was when I first started this regiment. Thanks to Gav of HGB, Tim, and Ron for the pro tips. Really looking forward to doing this with my folks. Keep you posted on the results.
